A SWINGIN' TRIBUTE TO A FORGOTTEN TIME
24/7 Magazine
Vegas has experienced tons of greats and living legends - but none can be
compared to the likes of the Rat Pack. Just mention Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra,
Sammy Davis Jr., or Joey Bishop to anyone and you'll immediately hear remarks
including, "I wish I could have seen them..."
We all know that there is no way to replace the Rat pack, but at the Greek Isles, you can take a stroll down memory lane in "A Tribute to Frank, Sammy, Joey & Dean."
The show is remarkable. Henry Prego, who portrays Sinatra, offers a notable impression in the likeness of his voice. His recreations of "Come Fly with Me,""Angel Eyes," and "All of Me," are both enticing and accurate.
Louie Velez could be Sammy Davis Jr.'s long lost twin. It has been said that Sammy himself did a double take the first time he met Velez. As a matter of fact, Velez's talent has been acknowledged by Davis' family. His performance of "Mr. Bojangles" is constanly a showstopper, as well as his compelling voice.
Joey Bishop is played by Sandy Hackett, who co-produces the show with Dick Feeney. Hackett, son of the lengendary Buddy Hackett, grew up around Joey Bishop, and used real life experiences to help create the script.
"Joey contributed to this script. My dad contributed to this script..." said Hackett. "There are elements of the script that we stay very close to, and there is a section that's free for all..."
Pete Willcox delivers a great Dean Martin in his performance of "That's Amore," and "Ain't That a Kick in the Head."
And who can forget about Marilyn, who makes a cameo appearance in the show by Stacey Nicole. Nicole has a knack for delivering a great Monroe impression, and is a crowd pleaser when she purrs "Happy Birthday" to a lucky gentleman.
Add to this mix of greats a 12-piece swing band, a theatre reminiscent of the Copa Room at the Sands, tons of one-liners and some classic tunes, and you have a tribute to the Rat Pack that could only be accomplished in Vegas. |
